The hellish living conditions and the inhuman behaviour of the guards are the two main reason of the Attica prison riots. Getting to shower only once in a week, having only an hour of recreation, not getting the necessary items for personal hygiene and on top of that, the way the guards behaved with the inmates were reason enough to start a riot. The fuel on the fire was added when George Jackson was killed. Hell broke loose.
